Psychotherapy

How can Psychotherapy help you?

Psychotherapy is clinically proven to help various mental health conditions such as stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, addiction, self-esteem and relationships issues. According to the American Psychological Association, there are five broad categories of psychotherapy:

  • Behaviour therapy

  • Cognitive behaviour therapy

  • Humanistic therapy

  • Holistic and integrative therapy

  • Psychodynamic therapy

The best way to get to the bottom of things is to share them–talk them through.

Unless we are monologuing to ourselves in the shower, our discussions with others are a two-way street–a call and response–with them (hopefully) listening, and then empathising and relating their own point of reference–sharing their own burdens.

What makes psychotherapy both distinct and therapeutic compared to this type of two way sharing is that the whole conversation is directed towards you. Your discussion with me, your therapist, becomes a one-way street. I will listen intently as you share things about yourself, like a sounding-board (we are all familiar with the stereotypical image of a client laying supine on a chez lounge, musing, seemingly just thinking aloud), and guide you to understand your own motivations.

With this careful shepherding,
I can lead you back safely to the root.

The root of your phobia/trauma/issue/compulsion, so you can discover its origin, which is not always as obvious as it may seem. When you learn where your problems originate, you can better understand the how and why of the significant role they play in your waking life.

This process of discovery can be challenging and even frightening. Powerful emotions and formative experiences are uncovered and relived during these sessions. My job is to guide you through this journey of self-discovery, and help you to mitigate overwhelming negative emotions and champion useful ones. I will lead you out from the belly of the beast and into the world––stronger, safer, and happier. You will be empowered by a more accurate and comprehensive understanding yourself.
